Evaluating North Atlantic Coastal Risks: BOEM has been invited by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to work with Federal partners  States and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to develop risk reduction strategies to protect the nation's vulnerable coast.  A report will be submitted to Congress within 24 months.

Scientists have discovered extensive communities of chemosynthetic mussels a mile below the ocean surface in the Norfolk Canyon east of Virginia. The find occurred during the joint BOEM-NOAA-USGS study of deepwater Atlantic Canyons, where researchers on the NOAA ship Ronald H. Brown are spending 4 weeks exploring the canyons and historic shipwrecks.

Smart from the Start: BOEM is making progress on the “Smart from the Start” initiative to deliver wind energy to the Outer Continental Shelf.  Several key milestones were reached recently by working with Atlantic state governments and stakeholders.  Task force meetings are being set for the Pacific Region.
