BOEM has received an unsolicited request for a commercial lease from Statoil North America Inc. (Statoil NA).

BOEM has finished a completeness review of the unsolicited lease application and has deemed Statoil NA to be legally qualified. The technical and financial qualifications review is currently underway. The area identified in the application is subject to task force deliberation and is subject to change.

The BOEM held its first task force meeting with the federal, state, local and tribal governments. The goal of the task force is to facilitate intergovernmental communications regarding OCS renewable energy activities. Files from the first Maine Task Force meeting on September14, 2010 are below.

BOEM is posting the Statoil the application (excluding privileged and confidential information) to provide preliminary information on the proposal in advance of the meeting on December 8, 2011.

A second Maine task force meeting was held on December 8, 2011. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the unsolicited lease application received from Statoil North America. Files from this meeting are below:

In December 2009, Maine announced the selection of the following three offshore wind power test sites: Boon Island, Damariscove Island and Monhegan Island.

These sites were selected by a consortium of government and private agencies and are in state waters. The sites will be used to test new technology that generates electricity from waves.
