What's New?
On March 14, 2013, BOEM announced that it has taken an important step toward issuing a wind energy research lease to the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Mines Minerals and Energy (DMME), after finding that there is no competitive interest in the area where the state agency proposes to conduct activities. This will be the first wind energy research lease on the OCS that BOEM has issued to a state agency. The data obtained under the research lease will be made publicly available and support the future production of renewable energy within and around Virginia's Wind Energy Area (WEA). There are four proposed/ongoing activities in and around the Virginia Wind Energy Area (WEA), which are listed below.
Task Force Meetings/Public Information Meetings
The BOEM coordinates Outer Continental Shelf renewable energy activities with its federal, state, local, and tribal government partners through the Virginia Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force. BOEM also coordinates public information meetings to help keep interested stakeholders updated on major renewable energy milestones.
