Pacific Region Director - Joan Barminski
Joan Barminski has over 30 years of service with the Department of the Interior, working in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) energy program on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. As the Regional Director for the Pacific Region, she leads an office of scientists and program specialists in implementing bureau policy offshore California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii. Her work includes developing regulatory policy and seeking a balance between resource development, public interest, and environmental protection. Barminski's office is currently responsible for managing existing oil and gas leases offshore southern California and actively working with stakeholders to provide access to offshore wind and wave energy resource development on the Pacific OCS. She also represents the Department of the Interior in ocean planning activities on the west coast through participation in regional ocean partnerships. Barminski, a California Registered Geologist, holds a B.A. in geology from Smith College and completed graduate work in coastal processes and marine geology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
