<descript>
This data set contains Continental Shelf Boundaries (CSB) lines in ESRI shapefile format for the BOEM Alaska Region. The CSB defines the seaward limit of federally managed OCS lands. This CSB file only includes the lateral boundaries between the United States and Canada or Russia. That portion of the CSB defined by the 200 nautical mile line has not yet been calculated. Because GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize coordinates, these GIS files are NOT an OFFICIAL record for the exact CSB.The BOEM is making its existing cadastre data available at https://www.boem.gov/Oil-and-Gas-Energy-Program/Mapping-and-Data/Index.aspx These data include Official Protraction Diagrams (OPDs), and Supplemental Official OCS Block Diagrams (SOBDs) in pdf format, and digital spatial data in ArcGIS shapefile format. In order to deal smoothly with the international dateline, positive longitudes like +175 degrees were converted into negative longitudes like –185 degrees.
<purpose>The CSB line and other cadastre information the BOEM produces are generated in accordance with 30 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 556.8 Subpart A, (formerly Part 256.8 Subpart A (2010)) to support Federal land ownership and mineral resource management.</purpose>

Official Protraction Diagrams (OPD's) and Leasing Maps depict approved subdivisions (blocks) of the OCS intended for leasing purposes. OPD's are constructed on the UTM Grid System and utilize the United Nations International Map of the World alpha- numeric numbering system. This worldwide system consists of main blocks (or zones) subdivided into minor blocks, which correspond to individual OPD's. Leasing Maps are the projection of a local (Lambert) State Plane Coordinate System Grid, onto the OCS. This system was developed prior to the more recent mapping system, which is comprised of the OPD's. Leasing Map coverage is limited to the near offshore areas of Louisiana, Texas, and southern California.</attrdef>
