SUMMARY

SAExploration Inc. (SAE) has submitted an application for a permit to conduct an on-ice seismic survey to acquire 3D seismic data using vibrators as the energy source in the Beaufort Sea Outer Continental Shelf Planning Area. The proposed survey area covers approximately 220 square miles, including State lands north of the village of Nuiqsut as well as areas of shallow bottom-founded ice of the Beaufort Sea. The project is proposed to take place between Feb. 15 and May 31, 2014. Survey Map

CHRONOLOGY

May 4, 2014: The Alaska Region Resource Evaluation Office receives notice that operations under this permit are complete. 

April 1, 2014: The Alaska OCS Resource Evaluation Office approves a modification to G&G Permit 14-01. The change extends the permitted project boundaries westward as shown on the revised map.

Feb. 24, 2014: The Alaska OCS Resource Evaluation Office issues G&G Permit 14-01 to SAExploration. Approved Permit | Approval Letter and Attachments

Dec. 19, 2013: BOEM SEEKS PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN PREPARING ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for proposed seismic survey #14-01 by SAExploration, Inc. Although the EA will include an analysis of proposed activities within the entire proposed project area, BOEM’s jurisdictional permit authority is limited to activities in the Outer Continental Shelf. BOEM is inviting the public to comment on issues that should be considered by BOEM in preparing the EA.

BOEM is only accepting and considering public comments submitted through the Federal eRulemaking Portal. The deadline to receive these comments is midnight (Eastern Standard Time) on Jan. 10, 2014. Nov. 5, 2013: BOEM's Alaska OCS Region Resource Evaluation office deems complete an application submitted by SAExploration Inc. for a G&G Permit to conduct seismic exploration activities. The proposed survey is designated OCS Permit 14-01. Review of the proposed activity begins, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review.
