National Academies-BOEM Committee To Delve Into Science Strategy And Environmental Studies At June Meeting

WASHINGTON, DC - The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) will hold the sixth meeting of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Standing Committee on Offshore Science and Assessment on June 22 and 23 at the National Academy of Sciences building, 2101 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C., 20418.  The meeting is open to media and the public, although seating is limited. The Academies require advance registration to attend in person. The advance registration, agenda, and live webcast link for both days are posted to the NAS website.

BOEM regional and headquarters scientists will give presentations on research related to a wide range of biological and physical oceanography, and social science sub-disciplines that are central to BOEM’s science strategy and presented in BOEM’s latest Environmental Study Development Plan.

The June 22 public session will be from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. EST. The committee will consider comments and questions from the media and public before the breaks. Comments or questions may be submitted throughout the day by email to osbfeedback@nas.edu.

The June 23 public session is scheduled from 9:00 a.m-4:00 p.m., with the same arrangements for considering comments and questions from the media and the public.

Videos and slides from the previous meetings are available on the NAS website. The committee encompasses a broad range of expertise in both natural and social sciences, relevant disciplines within those broad areas, and collective expertise from academia, industry, government, and the non-profit world in all four Outer Continental Shelf regions.
