Essential Functions

Environmental Statutes and Executive Orders

The Bureau must comply with numerous environmental statutes, regulations, and executive orders to carry out its mission.

  • International Agreements -┬áThe BEA advises senior managers and other agencies of the possible implications for BOEM in regards to several international agreements that include provisions addressing environmental issues. For example, we provide technical expertise on the international convention concerning the effects on offshore oil and gas activities to control air pollution from ships and offshore platforms. Our staff participates on national and international teams dealing with agreements for the disposal at sea of oil and gas platforms. We also provide advice on environmental issues associated with agreements between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada regarding the assessment of impacts that cross international maritime borders.
