Karen Thundiyil serves as the Chief of the Office of Regulations which is responsible for leading BOEM's national regulatory policy programs. Karen joined BOEM in August 2022. Prior to joining BOEM, Karen served at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Atmospheric Protection and the Office of the Administrator. Karen held positions at Booz Allen Hamilton and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) before entering government service.
Karen completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and obtained a graduate degree at MIT.
