New Orleans – The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), the Federal Agency responsible for managing offshore energy and mineral resources on the OCS, and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), the Federal Agency responsible for the management, conservation, and protection of living marine resources within the United States’ Exclusive Economic Zone, are proposing the preparation of a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) on proposed Gulf of Mexico geological and geophysical (G&G) activities.

What:

The public is invited to comment on the scope of the PEIS for proposed G&G activities in the Gulf of Mexico planning areas and adjacent state waters.

Why:

The PEIS evaluates the potential environmental effects of multiple G&G activities in these areas and, where needed, outlines mitigation and monitoring measures that will reduce or eliminate potential impacts.
