BOEM Holds Public Meeting In Galveston, Texas On Preparation Of Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement For Proposed Western Gulf Sales

NEW ORLEANS — The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), the Federal Agency responsible for managing offshore energy and mineral resources on the OCS is preparing a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for proposed Lease Sales in the Western Gulf of Mexico planning area (WPA) offshore Texas.

What: The public is invited to comment on the scope of the SEIS for proposed Western Gulf of Mexico Sales 238, 246 and 248 to be held in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Why: The SEIS will consider possible new circumstances and information arising from, among other things, the Deepwater Horizon explosion, oil spill and response. It will focus on updating the baseline conditions and potential environmental effects of oil and natural gas leasing, exploration and production in the WPA.
