Washington - The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) will hold the second meeting of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Standing Committee on Offshore Science and Assessment on April 14 and 15, 2016, at the National Academy of Sciences building, 2101 Constitution Ave, N.W., Washington, D.C. The meeting is open to media and the public, although seating is limited. The Academies require advance registration to attend in person.

The public session on April 14 is scheduled from 9:45 a.m.-5:30 p.m. EDT. The committee will take comments and questions from the media and the public on April 14 from 5:00-5:30 p.m., including those submitted by email to osbfeedback@nas.edu by 4:00 p.m. If time is available, questions will be read in the order they are received and potentially grouped together. The April 15 public session is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. - noon; no questions will be read on that day. The meeting will be live webcast both days.

The agenda will cover approaches for developing research priorities and thinking strategically in the science context to inform BOEM’s decision making. Speakers will also examine geological and geophysical permitting in the Gulf of Mexico, and future studies on oil in the sea and oil dispersants.

A video from the December 2015 meeting is available on the NAS website. The committee encompasses a broad range of expertise in both natural and social sciences, relevant disciplines within those broad areas, and collective expertise from academia, industry, government, and the non-profit world in all four Outer Continental Shelf regions.
