This year marks America’s 250th birthday. In celebration of the nation’s semi-quincentennial, DOI and its agencies are participating in Freedom 250—a multi-year, national effort to engage, educate, and unite Americans from sea to shining sea.

For more than 50 years—one-fifth of America’s 250—BOEMs scientific research has helped inform how and where offshore development moves forward so it can deliver reliable energy, good-paying jobs, and long-term economic growth.

As part of the Freedom 250 commemoration, BOEM is unveiling a new Studies Across America StoryMap. This interactive online narrative provides a glimpse into BOEM’s research and environmental assessment efforts. The initial launch features four studies, representing each of BOEM’s regions: Atlantic, Gulf of America, Pacific and Alaska. Additional studies will be added each month throughout the Freedom 250 celebration.

BOEM is proud to participate in Freedom 250—a celebration and commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence—and to embody the initiative’s spirit by responsibly managing the nation’s offshore energy, mineral, and geological resources.
