Exploring Coral, Canyon, and Cold Seep Habitats off the Mid- and Southeast Atlantic Coast: The DEEP SEARCH Study

Video

Travel with scientists from BOEM, NOAA, USGS and other research institutions who explored deepwater habitats offshore the U.S. Atlantic coast in 2018 for the DEEP SEARCH study (the acronym for DEEP Sea Exploration to Advance Research on Coral/Canyon/Cold Seep Habitats). The video includes interviews with the team about their awe-inspiring journey and dives in the Alvin submersible.

The production captures highlights of the August 2018 expedition, including the characterization of an 85-mile stretch of Lophelia coral located 160 miles off the South Carolina coast. Fieldwork began in 2017 under the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP).
