Obtaining an Alaska G&G Permit

Companies wishing to collect geological and geophysical data on the Alaska OCS must first obtain a permit from the Resource Evaluation office of BOEM’s Alaska Region.


Application Fee

A non-refundable cost recovery fee of $2,012 is required for each G&G permit application submitted. This fee must be paid at the time of submission of the application. The payment must be made electronically using the Pay.Gov system.


Permitting Forms

To conduct geological or geophysical exploration for minerals resources (oil, gas and/or sulphur) or scientific research on the OCS:

  • BOEM-0327: Application for Permit to Conduct Geological or Geophysical Exploration for Mineral Resources or Scientific Research on the Outer Continental Shelf
  • BOEM-0328: Permit for Geophysical Exploration for Mineral Resources or Scientific Research on the Outer Continental Shelf
  • BOEM-0329: Permit for Geological Exploration for Mineral Resources or Scientific Research on the Outer Continental Shelf

To conduct geological or geophysical prospecting for mineral resources or scientific research in the OCS related to minerals other than oil, gas and sulphur

  • BOEM-0134: Application for Permit to Conduct Geological or Geophysical Prospecting for Mineral Resources or Scientific Research in the Outer Continental Shelf Related to Minerals Other than Oil, Gas, and Sulphur
  • BOEM-0135: Permit for Geophysical Prospecting for Mineral Resources or Scientific Research on the Outer Continental Shelf Related to Minerals Other Than Oil, Gas, And Sulphur
