Earlier this month, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced the designation of the Morro Bay Wind Energy Area (WEA) offshore central California and its plans to conduct an environmental review of the WEA.
The agency also announced it is seeking public comments as part of its environmental review. As such, the agency initiated a 60-day public comment period, which will be open until January 11, 2022.
To facilitate public input, BOEM will host two virtual meetings. The first meeting will be held on December 1, 2021 at 5:00 pm. The second meeting will be held on January 5, 2022 at 9:00 am. Meeting times listed are in Pacific Time.
The input received during the public meetings and throughout the comment period will be used to inform BOEM’s preparation of an Environmental Assessment (EA), as required under the National Environmental Policy Act, to consider potential impacts from site characterization (e.g., biological, archeological, geological, and geophysical surveys) and site assessment activities (e.g., installation of meteorological buoys) within the WEA.
