Ocean Wind 1

On June 24, 2022, BOEM published a Notice of Availability (NOA) for the Ocean Wind 1 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Ocean Wind, LLC's Proposed Wind Energy Facility Offshore New Jersey. The following documents are available for your viewing.

The NOA initiates a 45-day public comment period that ends at 11:59 p.m. eastern time on August 8, 2022. During the public comment period, BOEM will be hosting three virtual public hearings where you can learn more about the project, ask questions, and provide oral testimony.

The virtual public hearings will be held on:

  • Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 1:00 PM ET
  • Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET
  • Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 5:00 PM ET

On December 8, 2020, Ocean Wind LLC submitted an application to BOEM to assign a portion of lease #OCS-A 0498 to Orsted North American Inc. BOEM approved the assignment on March 26, 2021. The lease area assigned to Orsted North America Inc. now carries the new lease number #OCS-A 0532. Orsted North America Inc.’s lease is subject to all terms and conditions of the original lease. On May 17, 2018, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management approved the Site Assessment Plan (SAP) for Lease OCS-A 0498 (Ocean Wind LLC). The SAP approval allows for the installation and operation of two floating light and detection ranging buoys (FLIDARs) and one metocean/current buoy within the lease area. The SAP was filed on September 15, 2017, with revisions filed in November 2017, January 2018, and February 2018.

Ocean Wind, LLC submitted its COP on August 15, 2019. BOEM will review the COP and approve, disapprove, or approve with modifications the proposed activities. An updated COP was submitted on March 13, 2020, September 24, 2020, March 24, 2021, December 10, 2021, and May 27, 2022.

Ocean Wind, LLC intends to develop, build, and operate a 1100 MW commercial offshore wind energy facility. The Ocean Wind 1 project would be in federal waters approximately 13 nautical miles (15 statute miles) southeast of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

On March 30, 2021, BOEM published a Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Ocean Wind Farm Project Offshore New Jersey. The following documents are available for your viewing.

The Notice of Intent initiated a 30-day public comment period. During the public comment period, BOEM hosted three virtual scoping meetings where the public could learn more about the Construction and Operations Plan (COP), ask questions, and provide oral testimony.  All three virtual public scoping meetings were recorded and can be found below, along with copies of the meeting presentations:
