Efforts Underway

In accordance with the settlement agreements between the United States and the following lessees, the Department of the Interior will cancel and rescind the following leases upon demonstration that the lessees have made the necessary investments in U.S. conventional energy development:  

  • Invenergy NE Offshore Wind, LLC - Lease No. OCS-A 0542 Settlement agreement between the United States and Invenergy NE Offshore Wind, LLC (June 12, 2026) 
  • BluePoint Wind, LLC – Lease No. OCS-A 0537 Settlement agreement between the United States and Bluepoint Wind (April 27, 2026) 

In accordance with the settlement agreement between the United States and Attentive Energy, LLC on March 23, 2026, the Department of the Interior has cancelled and rescinded Lease No. OCS-A 0538. 

The Department of the Interior and BOEM are implementing President Trump’s memorandum temporarily halting offshore wind leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf. The memorandum also pauses new or renewed approvals, rights-of-way, permits, leases, or loans for offshore wind projects pending a review of federal wind leasing and permitting practices.

Environmental Studies

New York Bight 

On Feb. 25, 2022, the Department of the Interior announced the results of the nation’s highest-grossing competitive offshore energy lease sale in history, including oil and gas lease sales, with the New York Bight offshore wind sale. The lease sale offered six lease areas totaling over 488,000 acres in the New York Bight for potential wind energy development and drew competitive winning bids from six companies totaling approximately $4.37 billion.
